We are pleased to announce that the Water Access Acceleration Fund (W2AF) has made a €3 million investment in SPOUTS International (SPOUTS), an innovative and leading East African enterprise dedicated to improving access to affordable safe drinking water in Uganda and Rwanda.
The €3 million investment from W2AF will enable SPOUTS to expand its operations across East Africa and further develop its innovative carbon credit programme.
As an active investor in W2AF, Aqua for All plays a catalytic role in enabling such impactful investments by providing first-loss capital and technical assistance for fund setup and investees. Our involvement supports promising water entrepreneurs like SPOUTS in scaling their solutions to address critical water challenges.
Since its founding in 2014, SPOUTS has produced and distributed Purifaaya ceramic water filters, an affordable and effective solution that ensures safe drinking water without the need for boiling. By eliminating the use of firewood and charcoal for water purification, these filters conserve natural resources, reduce household expenses, and significantly lower carbon emissions.
Today, SPOUTS serves over 740,000 people, delivering access to approximately 1.3 million litres of safe drinking water each day. To date, it has helped avert 1 million tonnes of carbon emissions. A key factor in SPOUTS’ success is its deep local presence, ensuring filters are used correctly and maintained properly. SPOUTS staff routinely visit clients to ensure filters are functioning as intended, providing guidance on cleaning and maintenance to maximise their effectiveness.
With two decades of experience in the water sector, Aqua for All is proud to contribute its expertise, knowledge, and networks to W2AF. This financial partnership exemplifies the transformative power of blended finance to drive access to safe water, support climate action, and build resilient communities.
