iW+ partnership for safe water awarded by 2020 P4G Partnership
Aqua for All’s partnership “iW+: unlocking new sources of financing to meet SDG6 through (water at-home) PAYGO solutions” was awarded $100,000 by the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) initiative.
The iW+ partnership will support Kenyan water service providers to tackle the challenges related to safe water supply in emerging and fast-growing areas. iW+’s model combining lease-based financing with pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) technical solutions is affordable, scalable and innovative.
This innovative solution will improve affordable and sustainable water supply for users. At the same time, it will help utilities to get access to commercial capital for new projects and to expand coverage.
Partnering for impact
Aqua for All, CityTaps, Untapped Kenya, WASPA Kenya and Waterpreneurs Association worked together to make this P4G partnership a success.
“Through the iW+ approach, we address both the service and finance gaps to provide access to safe water for all. P4G’s contribution will support a proof of concept that is required to scale this innovative solution. This will allow iW+ to offer sustainable safe water services to more households in Kenya and East Africa,” Marlies Batterink, Regional Programme Manager Aqua for All East Africa.
iW+ will directly contribute to achieving SDG 6 – Clean water and sanitation – and SDG 11 – Sustainable cities and communities.
