2024 was a milestone year for Aqua for All as we neared completion of the first five-year phase of the Making Water Count programme. Since 2019, we have exceeded all targets – improving access to water and sanitation for 5.7 million people directly and leveraging €4 in additional finance for every €1 of grant funding from the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We also supported 935 enterprises through 183 transactions, strengthening local markets and unlocking private capital for sustainable WASH services.
This year, we expanded our funder base through major new partnerships with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, and The Coca-Cola Foundation, enabling us to scale blended finance, social impact incentives, and climate-resilient WASH programmes. Key initiatives highlighted in the report include the launch of the Ethiopia WASH Finance Programme, the third phase of our partnership with Sidian Bank in Kenya, and new support for climate-resilient SMEs in West and East Africa.
In 2024, we strengthened our integration of climate and gender across all programmes, supporting enterprises that deliver inclusive, sustainable services and building evidence to improve gender outcomes. We are proud of these achievements and grateful for the commitment of our partners, donors, and the Aqua for All team as we continue driving systemic change toward universal access to safe water and sanitation.
