2021 was the second full calendar year of our Making Water Count programme. Despite restrictions, uncertainties and challenges globally, our portfolio grew from €19.44 million (2020) to €51.84 million, consisting of our own funds and leveraged co-funding. With 50 new contracts, the total number of new initiatives funded rose to 95 since the start of Making Water Count in mid-2019. In 2021, we built a pipeline of enterprises and developed blended finance initiatives that will be funded in 2022.
We are very grateful for the invaluable support of the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, our primary funder, and the outstanding collaboration with a wide range of actors and partner organisations within the water, sanitation, and impact investing sector.
Looking back at last year’s results, we are proud of what we have achieved, but we realise there is still much work to be done.
We look forward to making 2022 another successful year towards transforming the water and sanitation sector into an inclusive and sustainable economy.
