Solar pumping stations for sustainable water services in rural Mali

Scale - Drinking water

Project summary

UDUMA has developed a model that provides water services in rural areas. A “ppp” type project was launched in Mali in 2019 to rehabilitate 1400 manual pumps. Unfortunately, population participation was limited and operational results poor. Changes had to be made. A pilot introducing solar pumping stations has demonstrated the positiv impact of these infrastructures. Revenues generated by the solar stations can cross subsidize the services for the pumps. The goal is now to get enough solar facilities installed to be able to sustain the pumps and increase the consumption of safe drinking water.
