Scale access to finance for household sanitation and private water in Senegal (MFI & TA trajectory) - Aqua for All

Scale access to finance for household sanitation and private water in Senegal (MFI & TA trajectory)

Innovate - Drinking water / Sanitation

Project summary

Senegalese rural communities are still underserved, which opens opportunities for microfinance institutions to expand their portfolios and contribute to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goal 6 – safe water and sanitation for all. Together with USAID/ACCES and Senegalese financial institutions, Aqua for All aims to scale up access to finance for water and sanitation in Senegal.

During the workshop on November 16, 2021, we presented the business case for developing water and sanitation lending products and services for households and small & medium enterprises (SMEs). Innovative financial mechanisms, such as blended finance, were also discussed to showcase the opportunities and potential for financing water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in Senegal.

From January to December 2022, four financial institutions are selected to participate in a Technical Assistance trajectory to assess and develop financial products for WASH.
