Project summary
Pennine is piloting an integrated waterless sanitation solution for informal settlements, starting in Tembisa, South Africa. They leverage portable sanitation service providers (PSPs) and valorisation experts to service residents, saving up to 80% in logistics costs. The enterprise employs GIS capabilities with their SavvyLoo solution. The toilet separates urine and desiccates faeces to a dry bio-waste. This reduces life-cycle costs, pathogens and odours while protecting the environment. Compared to pit latrines, waterborne and chemical toilets, it has a lower economic and environmental impact.
