PuPu pump pilot: Improving pit emptying services in Burkina Faso - Aqua for All

Practica Foundation’s PuPu Pump is a promising innovation for affordable pit emptying. A large share (60%) of latrines in urban African communities cannot be served by vacuum trucks and must be emptied manually. In spite of numerous attempts, no successful technology has yet been developed to deal with this problem. PuPu pump has the potential to solve this issue by introducing clean, efficient and affordable emptying services to the population unreached by conventional vacuum trucks. Aqua for All is supporting Practica Foundation to work together with two local pit emptying associations in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, to test and validate the PuPu pump’s functionality and explore its market potential.
