Gasia Poa Waste Management Services: adapting operations for vulnerable households - Aqua for All

Gasia Poa is a waste management company operating in the slum area of Kisumu, Kenya. Founded in 2017, the business delivers hygienic and safe pit-emptying services to low-income communities.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, Gasia Poa’s revenues have fallen by 20%. The company lost customers as households could no longer afford the services. In addition, Gasia Poa had to reduce the number of staff and therefore introduced a shift system for its personnel, which cut their wages. Furthermore, the additional expenditure to comply with the government COVID-19 regulations increased their costs.

Together with assistance from OPERO Services, support from the Response Facility will help Gasia Poa to safeguard and increase access to sanitation services by supporting customers who are struggling financially. Moreover, the enterprise will improve its operations by focusing on digitalisation. Furthermore, a promotion and marketing campaign will increase brand awareness and the number of customers, which will have a positive impact on their revenue stream.
