Project summary
FINISH Mondial aims at improving sanitation, including faecal sludge management, in six countries: Bangladesh, Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The programme aims at strengthening four important pillars to make sanitation systems work. They comprise access to good quality sanitation enterprises, access to finance for sanitation at household and enterprise level, government as an enabler, and sanitation marketing to mobilise communities/households. In principle, FINISH Mondial focuses on the entire sanitation service and value chain. When needed to turn faecal sludge into useful products, (organic) solid waste management could also be included.
FINISH Mondial has set ambitious targets: in the period 2021-25, an additional 10 million people will have gained access to and use safe sanitation through the programme. This equates to 1/5th of the Dutch Government’s total sanitation target till 2030. This will be achieved through the realisation of 2 million safely managed sanitation systems and translates to an average grant investment of €20 per facility.
