Project summary
Safe Water Network India, a safe water enterprise (SWE), operates 350 Safe Water Stations serving a market of over 1.3 million people in quality-affected habitations in India. Each station has a 6-step water treatment plant, a remote monitoring system, and an automatic water dispensing unit. The stations are supported by the Clean Water and Energy Trust (an FSE) which, under the contract of Safe Water Network India, is responsible for station management, marketing, operator training, and technical servicing.
While the stations have experienced a near-total reduction in distribution sales due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a rise in walk-in consumer purchases, which increased their operational expenditures (OpEx). In order to continue providing the services, they need on-demand backup operators, promoting cashless payment transactions, upskilling field staff to implement COVID-19 safety protocols, and upgrading health insurance for staff and their families.
Response Facility funding is aimed at helping Safe Water Network India to cover local operational expenditures for the upcoming six months.
