Project summary
The Government of Kenya’s proclamation on free water for handwashing on 13 March 2020, after the first COVID-19 case in Kenya, led to the unprecedented demand for free water service. This had an immediate negative impact on the operations of water service providers (WSPs) and WASH enterprises (MSMEs). The surge in demand not only led to the rising operating costs, but also put a strain on their limited capacities. The project objective is, therefore, to help small scale WSPs and SMEs to access working capital finance in order to sustain WASH services for the 2.5-million low-income population affected by COVID-19 in Kenya.
