Project summary
Dairy farmers lack access to safe water. Yet if they would have access, their milk quality would improve and their income would increase, enabling them to pay for safe water. Currently, milk is collected in milk cans by transporters on mopeds, who deliver them to the dairy cooperatives and return them empty to the farmers. But these cans can be returned filled with safe water by setting up a water supply chain at the cooperative level, reaching at least 1,500 households. Once proof-of-concept of this reverse supply chain is established, it can be scaled to 3 million people in 10 years’ time.
