Open calls: Frequently asked questions (FAQ) - Aqua for All

Open calls - FAQ

Which countries can apply for funding?
+

We open calls for applications for each of our focus countries throughout the year. Please see our website for more information on which calls are currently active: Open calls – Aqua for All

Are community water kiosks for students (and their families) eligible to apply?
+

While your project is clearly valuable, our Making Water Count programme focuses on supporting water and sanitation enterprises to scale their services through market-based approaches. We aim to create systemic impact and typically do not fund projects that provide services to a specific group only.

Can a market-based model delivering sustainable and scalable basic hygiene service apply for funding?
+

Our current calls focus on enterprises that are working in drinking water and sanitation. Hygiene unfortunately falls outside of our scope. For that reason, it wouldn’t be a fit to apply.

Are non-profit organisations that are (supporting or) transitioning into a social enterprise model eligible to apply?
+

We focus on enterprises independently from their legal structure (private, non-profit). What matters for our call for applications is the market-based approach. When applying as a consortium, we do prefer the enterprise implementing the market-based approach to be the lead applicant.

Can the same organisation participate in more than one proposal under the current call, provided that the consortium composition and thematic focus are different?
+

Submitting multiple proposals is possible. However, submitting multiple applications may give the impression of a less focused approach when we assess the applications.
Please also note that concept-stage proposals are not expected to be final. As discussions evolve, the approach may be refined, and the proposal can therefore diverge from the original concept.

Can the same organisation act as lead applicant in more than one proposal if the proposed initiatives are distinct and independently managed?
+

Same as above. While it is possible, we highly recommend submitting a focused proposal.

Can an organisation apply for a call in country where they are not yet active?
+

We give preference to applicants who have active operations in the country for which they are applying. However, organisations with strong operations in another country may apply if they intend to scale to other countries. In such cases, the proposed expansion should be well grounded in the organisation’s existing experience and long-term strategy, rather than being driven only by Aqua for All’s geographic focus.

Should the organisation indicate a preferred instrument in the application?
+

Applicants do not need to, nor are they able to, indicate a preferred financing instrument in their application. Based on the applications, Aqua for All will assess the most appropriate instrument and discuss it with the applicant to ensure alignment.
