On February 15, 2021, ForthInvestment launched a call for applications to SMEs operating in the field of water, sanitation and integrated water resources management, as part of its “PERFORMING SMEs WASH Sector” programme.
The filing of files was successfully closed on March 25, 2021. “PERFORMING SMEs WASH Sector” is a programme developed by ForthInvestment and co-funded by Aqua for All. It is deployed in partnership with IRC WASH, Sinergi Burkina, ‘’La Maison de la PME’’ (‘’Société Générale’’ Burkina Faso), the 2IE institute and other private sector financing and supporting actors. It’s mission is to support and develop 10 SMEs over a period of ten months in the sector of:
1. Water: Drinking water company (water disinfection), Treatment and storage of water for domestic consumption (water filters), Water maintenance and operation services (standpipe);
2. Sanitation: Economy of toilets (emptying, ecological toilets), Circular economy (recycling faecal sludge, bio digesters);
3. Integrated water resources management: Recharge, retention and reuse of water (exploitation of rainwater, awareness and training), Engineering offices in geophysics (drilling), and Rational use of water (hydroponics in connection with the reuse of wastewater).
The selection phase lasted three months. Out of 37 SME applicants, 20 SMEs were shortlisted and ten SMEs were selected by a committee, at the end of a process including a diagnostic phase, an interview and a field visit. The selected SMEs were invited to a meeting on May 3, 2021 at the premises of ForthInvestment. During the meeting, they were presented in detail with the programme and the terms of the support. The “WASH PERFORMING SME” locomotive is therefore on the move with 10 SMEs in search of growth on board and alongside them experts in viability, SME development, technical experts in the various WASH sectors and investors. All managed by a competent ForthInvestment team serving one of the most innovative programmes in the market.
On arrival, 10 SMEs will land with enhanced technical and organisational skills, with financial support for their short and medium term needs. An appointment will be made in 10 months to discover the nuggets of the “PERFORMING SMEs WASH sector” programme. It should be noted that in addition to this support, a market study is also underway with a view to developing, in collaboration with local financing players, innovative financial mechanisms adapted to the sector.

Lancement du programme PME PERFORMANTES WASH
Le 15 février 2021, ForthInvestment lançait un appel à candidatures aux PME exerçants dans les domaines de l’eau, l’assainissement et la gestion intégrée des ressources en eau, dans le cadre de son programme « PME PERFORMANTES secteur WASH ». Le dépôt des dossiers fût clôturé avec succès le 25 mars 2021.
PME PERFORMANTES secteur WASH est un programme développé par ForthInvestment et cofinancé par Aqua for All. Il est déployé en partenariat avec IRC WASH, Sinergi Burkina, La Maison de la PME (Société Générale Burkina Faso), l’institut 2IE et d’autres acteurs du financement et de l’accompagnement du secteur privé.
Il a pour mission d’accompagner et développer 10 PME durant une période de dix (10) mois dans les secteurs de :
L’eau :
- Entreprise d’eau potable (désinfection d’eau) ;
- Traitement et stockage d’eau de consommation domestique (filtres à eau) ;
- Services d’entretien et d’exploitation en matière d’eau (borne fontaine)
L’assainissement :
- Économie des toilettes (vidange, toilettes écologiques).
- Économie circulaire (recyclage des boues de vidange, biodigesteurs).
La gestion intégrée des ressources en eau :
- Recharge, rétention et réutilisation des eaux (exploitation des eaux de pluie, sensibilisation et formation)
- Bureaux d’études en géophysiques (forages)
- Utilisation rationnelle de l’eau (culture hydroponique en lien avec la réutilisation des eaux usées).
La phase de sélection a duré trois (03) mois. Sur 37 PME postulantes, 20 PME ont été présélectionnées et dix (10) PME ont été retenues par un comité, au terme d’un processus incluant une phase de diagnostic, un entretien et une visite terrain.
Les PME retenues ont été invitées à une rencontre le 03 mai 2021 dans les locaux de ForthInvestment. Lors de la rencontre ils se sont vu présenter dans les détails le programme et les modalités de l’accompagnement.
La locomotive « PME PERFORMANTES WASH » est donc en marche avec à son bord 10 PME en quête de croissance et à leurs côtés des experts en viabilité, en développement de PME, des experts techniques dans les différents secteurs du WASH et des investisseurs. Le tout piloté par une équipe ForthInvestment compétente au service de l’un des programmes les plus innovants de la place.
A l’arrivée débarqueront donc 10 PME aux compétences techniques et organisationnelles renforcées avec à la clé un appui financier pour leurs besoins à court et moyen terme. Rendez-vous est pris dans 10 mois pour découvrir les pépites du programme « PME PERFORMANTES secteur WASH ».
Notons qu’en marge de cet accompagnement, une étude de marché est aussi en cours en vue de développer en collaboration avec les acteurs locaux du financement, des mécanismes financiers innovants adaptés au secteur.
