Following the workshop ‘Scaling up financing for water and sanitation’ for Senegalese financial institutions’ that was organised in November by Aqua for All , in collaboration with USAID/ACCESS, 5 MFIs have been selected to participate in a four month Technical Assistance (TA) trajectory.
During this TA trajectory, the selected financial institutions get tailored support to implement financial products in the field of WASH, by analysing and adapting existing products or developing new products (loans/savings). The Technical Assistance trajectory focuses on helping the selected MFIs to better understand the WASH sector, they will learn who the customers are, which products are suitable, and will learn how a non-performing loan can be repaid. Training of the portfolio managers on WASH (market size, opportunity, risk etc), and support in developing a promotional/marketing strategy for WASH financing products is part of the trajectory.
The kick-off will take place in February 2022, by a one-day training to initiate the TA and reduce the knowledge gap within the institutions, after which individual action plans will be defined and implemented in the next four months.
