We are looking for a Legal & Compliance Officer

As Legal & Compliance officer at Aqua for All, you are a sparring partner for our management and advise proactively on the legal or compliance impact of our business activities. You will work closely with our team and advise them on the legal and regulatory aspects of our business, including investments undertaken by Aqua for All. While you can go in depth you know when to keep an eye on the ‘big picture’ and Aqua for All’s strategic objectives.
In this role, you will ensure the effective implementation of laws and regulations. Leveraging your strong interpersonal skills and talent for developing clear, efficient policies, you’ll mobilise the organisation to keep Aqua for All consistently compliant with relevant legal requirements. Additionally, you will conduct periodic reviews to assess compliance and evaluate whether our policies align with and support our operational model. Your role is crucial to bringing Aqua for All’s plans to life.

The legal & compliance officer will be based in The Hague.
Your responsibilities
Contracting
- Review contracts with partners, including SMEs, financial institutions, asset managers, funders
- Coordinate legal activities for investment and grant based projects
- Examine fund documentation such as investment agreements, subscription agreements, LPAs regarding our fund investments
- Draft and negotiate legal documents such as funding agreements, engagement letters, ND’s and LoIs
- Engage with external legal counsels of co-investors and funders
- Draft, negotiate and support all contracts with service providers including external advisors, consulting firms, impact verifiers, technical assistance providers.
Compliance
- Advise management on strategic decisions
- Provide quarterly reports covering risks, mitigation, and opportunities.
- Establish an internal risk control mechanism that complies with relevant regulations
- Legal due diligence of transactions
- Compliance review of transaction parties including SMEs, financial institutions and funds
- Draft and update relevant policies such as AML and KYC
- Examine various regulatory, commercial and financial issues faced by Aqua for All and advise on applicable regulatory impact on the organisation.
Other
- Organise knowledge sharing sessions within Aqua for All
- Assist in the development of KYC training material and the delivery of training to target groups.

Job requirements
- A Dutch law degree, (a focus on Finance or Corporate Law is preferred)
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in sustainable finance or investment
- Legal and regulatory knowledge of investments funds, restructuring, and transactions
- Work experience; affinity with ESG framework is a plus
- Experience in a similar role within impact investing or emerging markets is highly valued
- Team player, comfortable in an international environment, with a “hands-on” approach
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Dutch.
- Working knowledge of French is a strong advantage.
- Residency in the Netherlands
