Kevin and Dave of Tereco in Cape Town

As part of the project milestones, Trace's Founder Kevin Mureithi, made a visit to the beautiful town of Cape Town to meet up with their partner for the plastic roofing tile pilot. The company known has Tereco is based in Blackheath and has 2 factory spaces where they demonstrate their equipment. Tereco in partnership with Plastitrade (Pty) Ltd is a South African Machinery and Technology supply company headed by Dave Worsley and Greg Muller. Dave is a trained mechanical engineer with over 20 years experience working in the plastic recycling industry and has worked on various projects of setting up different plastic recycling businesses in Africa. Greg is a seasoned marketer who has worked for the better part of his professional life for their family business which was the first plastic recycling company in Cape Town South Africa established in 1970. Together they developed a new and innovative formulation that could produce resin bonded products such as roofing tiles. These are unique because they are made out of mixed post-consumer plastic waste (that could otherwise have ended up in the environment) blended with sand to manufacture building products that are not only affordable and high quality but eco-friendly as compared to other options in the market. The company has exported their technology to 4 other African Countries including Uganda, Congo, Nigeria and Angola. One of their clients in East Africa is Resintile Ltd (http://www.resintileea.com/) based in Uganda that has excelled in selling resin bonded roofing tiles in the region even exporting their products in to the Kenyan market due to high demand for the products.

The visit was not only an eye opener but it created an opportunity for Trace to personally bond with its partners as they work together to make the pilot a success in Kenya. The first step to an exciting journey of solving the plastic waste menace!
