In the organisation Rémi Kaupp works for, WaterAid, innovation is an important part of the new strategy. He discusses his frustration on the many misunderstandings about innovation in the WASH sector, and pitches his view on what innovations are, and what should be done to improve the WASH sector.

Most important lessons are that innovations do not necessarily need to be big inventions. They need to connect to the users; material and knowledge need to be present locally for sustainable innovations; and most often the solutions are not found in inventions, but in changing the way we and institutions work.
