On 15 January 2018, we had the first release of BSF larvae in a household toilet in Polana Canico, a low-income community in Maputo.
Problems in the production of BSF kept us from postponing to do so. But with more experience and knowledge we have been able to cultivate enough BSF to inocculate 10 prototype toilets this month.
An inspection of the toilet after 8 days of use, showed that the larvae did their work in the pit of the latrine. A close monitoring programme has been established in cooperation with the local NGO Optar.
