We are proud to announce that our partner Foundation Partners Pays-Dogon has won The Energy Globe Award! It has been selected as National Winner in Mali with the project ‘Specially designed water towers with a broad impact on the environment and regional development’.
The Energy Globe Award is today’s most prestigious environmental award. It is awarded annually to projects protecting our environment by personal action, sustainable projects or campaigns for raising awareness in sustainability.
The Energy Globe Award is presented in the categories of Life: Earth, Fire, Water, Air, Youth and a yearly special category. This year, more than 2500 projects have been submitted from more than 180 countries.
Foundation Partners Pays-Dogon fosters education, healthcare, women’s rights, culture, and access to water in the Dogon area in Mali. Their award-winning project is aimed at building solar-powered water towers in rural areas of the country. The pilot scheme supported by Aqua for All and Marie Stella Maris was launched in 2021, with two water towers built so far. It is planned to add eight more towers by 2023.
According to Partners Pays-Dogon, the local population has accepted modern water towers with great enthusiasm, as a better alternative to hand water pumps. Nevertheless, the latter remains a cheaper and more accessible option for water-scarce areas. Learn more about the project here (in Dutch).
