Short course fellowships
for female water professionals from Sub Saharan Africa
The Roth Family Foundation offers three fellowships for IHE Delft Short Courses in July 2017 to female water professionals from Sub-Saharan Africa. Interested candidates may apply by completing the online application to IHE Delft before 24 April 2017.
The role of water collection in Sub-Saharan Africa predominately falls to women and girls, who can spend hours each day walking miles to collect water from unprotected sources. Many NGOs and local organizations enable people to access clean water, improved hygiene and sanitation. However, the societies that these organizations work in are generally male dominated, so extra effort has to be taken to ensure women are equally included in all stages including planning, construction and decision-making. A lack of education for women in developing countries – often due to a lack of water or sanitation – means that very few women are decision-makers, yet enabling women’s voices to be heard is a crucial step in development.
