New VIA Water sanitation project in Mali
The Belgian NGO Protos is in the lead for an innovation for more efficient emptying and sludge management in Bamako. Protos is assisted by the Dutch organization Practica and is working in co-operation with the private sector, local authorities and NGOs/CBOs.
They plan to have an App and Call Center for service delivery and want to experiment with new small extractors that can upgrade the actual manual pit emptying. In a recent study that we did on business development in the sanitation chain, we realized that pit emptying is a neglected part in innovative business. Hence we are happy with this initiative. This project is of special interest, as the pit emptying service is one of the few better developed private sector services in Mali. It is well embedded in a wider sanitation EU funded programme (ACASIA).
