“Water Rights and Water Conflicts” - Join the free, open, interactive webinar
While land rights are recorded systematically in most countries, water rights are not. This makes it easier for vested interests to capture and abuse them. So would there be an added value of registering water rights, the way land rights are registered?
In a webinar next week (September 13, Tuesday; 1100 GMT), Frank van Steenbergen (MetaMeta) will discuss the links between water rights regimes and the practice of monopolizing water use. The discussion will be informed by findings of a recent research on the Codification of Water Rights, supported by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). Special emphasis will be on flood-based farming systems, where water rights systems are inherently complex and hold valuable lessons.
The webinar is being organised by the Spate Irrigation Network Foundation, Kabul University - EPRSO and UNESCO-IHE.
The webinar is free to attend and open to all. For more details, local timings, and how to attend, please visit www.thewaterchannel.tv/webinars
