We sampled raw water (left side) and wastewater (right side) from car washing stations in Ghana to test the extent of pollution of the raw water. Indeed the spikes in turbidity, heavy metals, COD, BOD and oils and grease are alarming. Potable freshwater from groundwater is being converted into extremely polluted water. In the face of dwindling annual rainfall in Ghana and increasing dependence on groundwater, this could spell doom in the long term.
