Inspecting water hyacinth harvester
SNV and Greenergia K Ltd and their supporting organisation Illumina Africa met at the peninsula at Rare Beach Kisumu to discuss first steps and assess the site and equipment. Together with Deltares, the partners will work towards pellet production from water hyacinth and other locally available wastes for an adoption trial during which the local community will trial the use of the fuel-pellets in combination with improved cookstoves; gasifier stoves.
In the weeks leading upto the meeting Greenergia started harvesting water hyacinth manually and a heap of dried water hyacinth was awaiting us. This will be used as raw material for the first samples of fuel-pellets.
The companies are now focused on getting the water hyacinth harvester water-ready awaiting arrival of the water hyacinth in the bay.
