Sanivation with local chief, flower farm rep, and public health officer

Sanivation, with support from WSUP and the Ministry of Health, has been investigating the demand for improved sanitation in Kasarani, a peri-urban informal settlement near Naivasha, Kenya. We have been talking to flower farms, the largest employer in the area, to see how they might be able to contribute. The current sanitation facilities in Kasarani are poor, and in December 2015, there was a serious cholera outbreak. Our research has included conducting a focus group and carrying out numerous individual interviews with landlords, tenants, local government officials, and flower farm management staff. From our interviews, there is a noticeable demand for improved sanitation among both renters and landlords in Kasarani. We are continuing to work with flower farms to help support the financing of sanitation facilities.
