Demonstration in Lanet

Programme partners organised a demonstration event in Lanet where one of the maize trials is set up. The research assistants engaged through the partnership with Egerton University explained to government stakeholders and farmers pre-liminary results on how the different treatments are performing.

The treatments used are Struvite from urine and compost, dried sludge and bio-char produced from faecal matter. Struvite is compared with the conventional fertiliser DAP and the other products with cow manure. Data analysis is currently still on-going.

Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Public Health Departments, the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) were present and expressed their support for the on-going research and road to certification and market introduction of the proposed products.
