Crowdfunding your WASH enterprise

On 6 and 7 October 2016, EnterWASH participants came together to learn about crowdfunding during a 2-day training on ‘how to crowdfund your WASH enterprise’.

The crowdfunding programme forms part of the last stage of the EnterWASH programme, whereby the EnterWASH participants develop and launch their very own crowdfunding campaign to raise funding to help kickstart their WASH enterprise. We are very pleased to have partnered with Fundraising Africa, the very first Ghana-based crowdfunding platform.

Fundraising Africa (FRA) is a young and local donation-based crowdfunding platform which is unique because it allows many different payment options. This makes it possible for people without a (foreign) creditcard to support the campaigns. While there are many great crowdfunding platforms out there, very few allow you to start or support a campaign from Ghana. With the crowdfunding programme, we want to show that young entrepreneurs can use crowdfunding to reach out to their local networks for support.

As most EnterWASH entrepreneurs have no experience with crowdfunding, the training served as an introduction to the different models, and allowed them to think about their goals, key messages and what steps they should take before actually launching the campaign online. The Fundraising Africa team also talked us through the steps of uploading a campaign and participants got inspired by guest speaker Felicia – who has run several successful campaigns on the FRA platform.

All EnterWASH entrepreneurs will be working on developing a plan for their campaign, which will be reviewed before they proceed with launching their campaigns.

Keep an eye on our website (soon to be relaunched!) to find out about the EnterWASH entrepreneurs and how you can support them.
