Our programmes: The Coca-Cola Foundation
Introduction
The SME Growth Programme for Climate-Resilient WASH is a programme supported by The Coca-Cola Foundation (TCCF) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, under its Sustainable Access to Safe Water impact area. The programme aims to help growth-stage water and sanitation enterprises become more climate resilient, investment-ready, and capable of scaling their impact. By addressing barriers to growth and improving access to finance, the programme supports enterprises that are ready to expand their reach and contribute to sustainable water and sanitation services.

What we do
The programme helps bridge both the service gap and the finance gap that continue to limit progress towards Sustainable Development Goals 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and 13 (Climate Action).
Using Aqua for All's proven dual approach, the programme supports growth-stage water and sanitation enterprises by strengthening their business performance, enhancing their climate resilience, and improving their ability to attract investment. These enterprises already have an established product or service, a growing customer base, and the ambition to scale, but often face challenges in accessing the capital and expertise needed for further growth.
In parallel, the programme works with local financial institutions to strengthen the broader financing ecosystem. By improving their understanding of the water and sanitation sector and supporting the development of tailored financial products, the programme helps unlock additional private capital for enterprises delivering essential services.
The programme focuses on four key interventions:
- Results-based grants to support business growth and operational sustainability.
- Technical assistance for business development to strengthen investment readiness.
- Technical assistance for climate resilience to help enterprises assess and adapt to climate risks.
- Support for financial institutions, including technical assistance and risk-sharing instruments, to increase access to finance for water and sanitation SMEs.
Expected impact
By July 2027, the programme aims to improve access to water and sanitation services for thousands of people.
The programme will also:
- Provide results-based grants to four growth-stage water and sanitation enterprises.
- Deliver tailored technical assistance to improve business performance and investment readiness.
- Strengthen climate resilience among four to six water and sanitation SMEs.
- Engage two financial institutions to increase financing opportunities for water and sanitation enterprises.
- Develop and promote financial products tailored to the needs of the WASH sector.
- Generate and share lessons on climate-smart and investment-ready business models for the broader sector.
By combining support for growth-stage water and sanitation enterprises with efforts to strengthen the broader financing ecosystem, the programme helps create stronger, more climate-resilient businesses capable of attracting private investment and delivering sustainable water and sanitation services at scale.
