Project summary
The Makutano Borehole is a water service provider (water community-based organisation) in Makueni County, Kenya. The organisation has 23 employees and serves 18.000 people under normal circumstances. Due to the pandemic, they have seen strongly increased demand for water coupled with a reduction in customers’ ability to pay. The reduced cash flow has affected their capital base and the ability to implement necessary improvements in order to cater for the increased water demand, including leakage repairs.
Aqua for All’s Response Facility has supported Makutano Borehole in improving operations by repairing a storage and distribution tank of 50m3 as well as the steel tank support tower. In addition, the enterprise will use the funds to set up a plastic water storage tank in order to ensure 24-hour water sales.
